Do not rush to make it soon. Meet the right set of people. Groom yourself completely; take great care of your body, skin, and hair but most importantly come with the right attitude, which means confidence, not arrogance. And also never imitate anyone. Meet our cover girl this month Natasha Suri.

Name: Natasha Suri

Birth date: 15 th May

Hottest thing about you:

My complexion and warmth! (of personality)

The craziest thing you have ever done

I have always been a naughty kid in school and college. I have made prank calls, stolen pepsi bottles from the vans and sneaked off to Goa with my girlfriends on our way back from a wedding.

What attracts you to a man?

His courtesy, chivalry and respect towards women. I believe in the age old tradition of men protecting, providing security, pampering and caring for their women. I like smart, honest and generous men, who are soft at heart but who are ambitious and go-getters at the same time.

Hottest pickup line that has come your way

(LOL… laughs out loud) I have never encouraged pick up lines yet.

Your strongest point

I don’t have expectations from people, which makes me quite independent and saves me from being let down. I am very family oriented and my loved ones give me the reason to work hard towards success.

Your weakest point

I am too impulsive at making decisions. There are times when I only follow emotions and not the practical aspect of things. Also, I can be too stubborn at times, like a typical Taurean (LOL…). I live in my own imaginary-fantasy world, which sometimes hurts when I have to accept reality.

The best thing that has happened

I guess, the best things are yet to come! (Inshallah)

Your inspiration

People who triumph, in spite of hurdles, obstacles and pain, inspire me. Life provides us with ample examples of victory and inspiration around us in the form of lotus in a mud pond, or a disabled individual striving to learn and grow, or a young child getting up every time he stumbles!

Your guilty passion/secret

Well, secrets are meant to be secrets! However, guilty passion would be food! I am a complete junk food lover who loves street food. I love spending money on beauty products, toiletries etc (colourful bottles and packagings entice me LOL...)

Who do you think is the ultimate fashion diva and why?

Princess Diana, Maharani Gayatridevi, Jennifer Lopez, Rekha and Beyonce are some women that I feel are divas in their own right. They are all original, beautiful, comfortable in their own skin and have found their ‘own’ style

What you prefer fashion or style

Style any day! But it should be yours, which originates from with-in. Fashion changes every season. I cannot follow the herd just to feel ‘in’.

As a fashion police, you would ban….

Platform heels; jeans flared at the bottom; wearing sunglasses in the night; wearing blue or grey lenses during the day for personal meetings

Fashion tips for our readers

Do not just blindly follow fashion trends. Trends change every season. Be and show who you really are and what you are comfortable in. Make your own trends.

Colour that you wear most often:

White, black and brown (most-most often)

How did modelling happen to you?

I once accompanied my sister to a shoot, where I was ‘spotted’ by the creative director and he clicked my pictures randomly. After that I participated in and won the ‘Navy Queen contest’. This boosted my confidence as I was not very confident of my looks and appearance earlier. Later, I also won the ‘Get Gorgeous’ beauty pageant. My lucky break came when Atul Kasbekar spotted me in a beauty contest. Thereafter, I signed up with his agency where he shot my pictures for the Cosmopolitan magazine and introduced me as one of the hottest faces of 2006 in the Canon Annual Calendar. This got me instant recognition, and on his advice I decided to enter the ‘Miss India’ contest 2006.

What was your family’s reaction on modeling as a career option for you?

My mom and both my sisters were very supportive. My elder sister is also a model, anchor and actress, so I was never discouraged. But yes, my whole family was very surprised, since I was always a complete tomboy and they thought I would study to become a doctor or take up another career option.

What was your first reaction when your name was first announced for Miss India?

The world knows that I reacted so strangely. In fact I was so numb and speechless that I didn’t utter a word till I was crowned with the tiara on my head. But, I must confess that I was just conversing with God, thanking him for this moment while I was walking towards being crowned. It was just ‘my’ moment with ‘Him’.

Do you think a parallel career option necessary for models to secure their future? If yes what is your plan on it.

Modelling can be as secure or insecure as being a DJ or a cricketer. However, if you are passionate enough and also confident that you are cut out especially for this, then you can surely follow your heart. However, it is always best to have investments to secure you financially, considering the nature of this field. A backup profession is an advantage. Hence, education is a priority. Never overlook it. Modelling is a great profession, but practically a short lived one, so plan things out for sure.

What are your views on the sexual harassment in this industry?

I am sure it’s prevalent in every industry, just that its much more in the open here. But fortunately, I’ve never been subjected to it. The choice is always yours, though no one can force you to do anything against your wishes. You just need to set your priorities right in life. However, it is sad that one may even have to contemplate dealing with this issue. It’s a punishable offence, and we should strive to eradicate this disease as much as possible.

What is your advice to the aspiring models?

Do not rush to make it soon. Meet the right set of people. Groom yourself completely; take great care of your body, skin, and hair but most importantly come with the right attitude, which means confidence, not arrogance. And also never imitate anyone.
