Bidding adieu to all speculations, at last India clutched the much-awaited Oscars at the 81st Academy Awards in Los Angeles' Kodak Theatre.
Talented music composer A. R Rahman created history after winning two Oscars for the best score, and another for his song Jai Ho from the movie, Slumdog Millionaire.
After costume designer Bhanu Athaiya and director Satyajit Ray, Rahman is the third Indian to win an Oscar. Rehman shared the best song award with lyricist Gulzar but he forgot to name the singer, Sukhwinder, whose soulful voice mesmerized every listener.
"I just want to thank again, the whole crew of Slumdog Millionaire, especially Danny Boyle for giving me such a great opportunity," stated serene guy Rahman. Adding to India's joy, Smile Pinki, with strong Indian connection, bagged the prestigious award in the short documentary category.
Slumdog Millionaire won eight Oscars including Best Picture award. While Danny Boyle won the best director Oscar for the movie, Simon Beaufoy got Best Adapted Screenplay award for the movie, Anthony Dod Mantle bagged Oscar for Best Cinematography and Resul Pookutty won the Oscar for the Best Sound Mixing for the movie. Chris Dickens bagged Oscar in the Best Film Editing Category for Slumdog Millionaire.
