Get a 'gentleman' look in formal fashion

Unlike casual fashion, formal fashion has few set rules and every man has to follow these etiquette to be acclaimed as 'gentleman'. Casual fashion is more governed by the American culture while European fashion, especially Italian fashion, is mostly followed in formal fashion. No doubt that's why Italian men are considered the most stylish in the formal fashion. A well tailored suit, shining leather shoes and a classical design watch is all you need to get admiring glances from women.

Suit
The core part of formal fashion, a suit is the building block of your formal look. You cannot go wrong with a single-breasted black, grey or dark blue coloured suit. It will also make you look slimmer and leaner than a double breasted one, which will make you look fatter.

Fabrics
Wool is a good option to buy in winter. You can also choose linen or cotton fabrics for summer season. With regard to patterns for formal suits, these are limited to solids, stripes like pinstripe, chalk stripe, beaded-stripe, multistripe, plaids, and checks like houndstooth, windowpane and herringbone.

Shirt
The fabric of the shirt should be cosy, so choose cotton, linen and silk. To broaden the face, men with lean faces should choose collars that are wide. On the other hand, men with wider faces should wear collars that are narrow to give the image of a longer face.

Ties
Today, formal wear does not necessarily mean wearing a tie. However, to make a strong fashion statement, wear a patterned tie with a patterned shirt. Make sure that the colours are the same and the patterns should go in the same direction. The length of the tie is another important issue. It should hit the top of your belt buckle and the ideal width of ties is between 3 to 4 inches.

Combining tie with shirts and suits
While choosing a suit, shirt and tie, match their colours contrast to your complexion and hair colour. If you have dark hair and light skin, or vice versa then your jacket, tie, and shirt combo should be high contrast too. If your hair contrast is softer and lighter for example, you are blond or have gray hair with pale skin, or dark skinned with dark hair then you need to wear clothing with a lower contrast. If you are thin, choose a jacket with wider shoulders. If you are heavier then wear darker colours that are monotone from top to bottom.

Watches
With regard to accessories, a watch with a large dial is the only thing you really need. Forget earrings and lots of gold, silver or diamond rings. The only accessory a man needs is a stylish watch. However, rings can be worn if subtle and only a few.

Belts
Buy a quality one but this does not have to be expensive. Your belt colour should be coordinated with your footwear and suit such as black with black and brown with brown.

Shoes
Black is the traditionally safe colour for work but brown can also look stylish. You can also use a variety of styles including loafers, wingtips, round-toe, or the trendy pointy-tipped shoe. For men, shoes are the final touch and are one of the things that most people notice with great suit.
